Films selected for the NFF Student Competition

Amazing summer news!

This year not one, but two of my films have been selected for the student competition of the Netherlands Film Festival! This is a great honour and confirmation that when you love your craft and you work hard, your work will be noticed and appreciated.

The film ”De Anatomie van een Meermin” is my graduation film from my master’s in Composing for Film. It is a film made with the Film Academy of the Netherlands, and it premiered in the Film Academy FIlm Festival in the Eye FIlmmuseum on the 4th of July, 2024.

The film ”Little Pie in the Sky” was also made during my master’s studies, the music for which was recorded in FAMES Studio in Skopje, North Macedonia, with a student orchestra. The film premiered in Zwolle on the 1st of July, alongside with all the graduation films of the ArtEZ Animation Department of 2024.

The films are completely different from each other, both in themes and in musical ideas and inspirations. ”De Anatomie van een Meermin” is a dark live-action short film, with many new and different sounds that surround the complex storytelling. For this soundtrack I recorded the electric violins with several guitar pedals, as well as distorted synth sounds and some acoustic ones. ”Little Pie in the Sky’s” soundtrack is completely acoustic; there is only the small orchestra that was recorded all together, that creates a more approachable and sweet sound that supports grief as a thematic for the film. In this animation short film, the little boy, the protagonist of the film, is going through a colourful journey with an unlikely companion, a journey that is completely supported by the musical changes and developments.

I am proud of both of those films, and I am looking forward to the reception of a wider audience at the festival, from the 20th until the 27th of September in Utrecht! See you all there!
